Summer may *technically* start on June 21, but here in Crystal Beach, we’re already in summer mode. Whether you’re vacationing in the area this summer, making day trips from surrounding communities, or spending the summer here in a beach home of your own, you may wonder what kinds of activities Crystal Beach has to offer. Our homebuilding experts here at Prestige Custom Builders know and love the area, and have a few of their favorite summertime activities to share!
- The Beach!
Yes, it’s the obvious answer, but the beach itself is at the heart of the Crystal Beach community! The Bolivar Peninsula, which includes Crystal Beach, offers an abundance of opportunities to swim, body board, fish, sunbathe, and partake in all your other favorite seaside activities. In Crystal Beach, you can drive on the beach itself, which means no need to worry about parking, or lugging all your towels, chairs, floaties, and coolers from the car to your spot.
- The Fun Spot Waterslide
Looking for a way to take a break from the beach, but still beat the heat? The Fun Spot Waterslide is a classic waterslide that’s been in the heart of town for more than 30 years!
“This place has been around since I was a kid,” says Landon Wright, owner and CEO of Prestige Custom Builders. “When you think of a waterslide, this is it!”
The slide is open 7 days a week, from 11:00-6:00 Monday-Saturday and 11:00-4:00 on Sundays. Visitors can purchase season passes, weekday passes, or simply access the park for the day. Learn more about the waterslide on their Facebook page, or by giving them a call at 409-684-2384.
- Fishing
The Crystal Beach area offers great surf fishing, and is prime hunting grounds for trout, sharks, or redfish. If you don’t have a boat of your own, there are plenty of local fishing guides such as Captain Ronnie Scheck at Crystal Beach Fishing and Captain Mike at Galveston Fishing Adventures that can take you out into the bay.
You can also try your own hand at crabbing! There are a few public crabbing spots in the area, and with just a few inexpensive materials you can grab from the local Ace Hardware, you can have a fun day with the whole family - and possibly catch all the fixins for a delicious dinner.
- Visit Fort Travis Park
Take a little trip back in time with a visit to Fort Travis Park, on the westernmost end of the Bolivar Peninsula. The battery at Fort Travis was built in 1836 - the first fort established in the Republic of Texas! - to protect Galveston Harbor. Visitors today can explore the grounds, and learn about the history of the fortifications here through the years.
- We all scream for ice cream!
There’s nothing quite like a sweet, refreshing scoop of ice cream to help beat the summer heat we get here in Southeast Texas. Ice cream trucks consistently drive along the beach, so even if you’re staying by the water, a sweet treat will never be too far away.
Ritas and Cream is a local favorite serving up classics like dipped cones and banana splits, as well as refreshing adult libations, such as margaritas and daiquiris.
Make the most of summertime on the Bolivar Peninsula all summer long with your own custom beachside home in Crystal Beach!
