Dreaming of a Custom Home? How Construction Phase Communication Improves the Experience

October 2, 2024
Your plans for a dream home come to life during the construction phase of the custom home-building process. In this month's blog, "Dreaming of a Custom Home? How Construction Phase Communication Improves the Experience," we explore how communication impacts the details of the construction phase to improve the custom home building experience.

Your plans for a dream home come to life during the construction phase in the custom build process. Construction is where the blueprint, work, and details combine to build your dream. Communication is the heart of this phase to build what's on paper into the real-life place you call home.

In a recent Fireside Chat, President of Prestige Custom Builders, Landon Wright, highlighted why home buyer involvement and communication are foundational to Prestige's process. We're expanding on his insights and focusing on how communication with homebuyers, suppliers, and workers impacts the details and the construction phase to improve your custom home-building experience.

Including the Home Buyer to Get the Details Right

Customers are a big part of the home-building process and the main difference in custom projects. Details mean everything when you put your ideas into a blueprint and construct them in real life. A homebuyer who is involved daily or consistently and communicates with the builder helps ensure that the details are top-of-mind and that any changes are incorporated.

Landon Wright said it best in his Fireside Chat. "We like to do projects where the customer wants to be involved in the project on a day-to-day basis. Having the customer involved allows us to make sure we tailor this house to their personal needs regarding the quality and attention to detail of the house."

From Blueprint to Real-Life: A Better Process Building Your Dream Home

The best custom home experience starts and ends with communication. Communicating with the client in different ways during the construction phase differentiates custom from spec or traditional builders. Weekly or bi-weekly phone calls keep the customer in the loop on their project.

Landon expressed his commitment to Prestige's customers. "We take pictures throughout the process so the client or we can go back and reference them whenever necessary. We set Prestige apart from other custom builders with drone videos from the start to the end of a project and give them to the homeowner when we're done. They can watch them five or ten years later, reflect on the whole process, and hopefully still enjoy it."
